When I taught special education I had two kindergarten boys who liked to compete with each other about everything. One of the boys said “Ms. Janky, my dad drives a truck.” I asked, “What kind of truck?” He said, “A semi-truck.” I said, “Wow, that is a big truck.” The other boy said, “Well, my dad drives a rocket!”
After 23 years in working in education, this was a first for me. In the middle of evaluating a second grade student, he stopped me and asked if I could get him a cup of coffee. Ummmm, no.
I had the privilege of evaluating an interesting and very curious second grade student the other day. We were chatting with each other as we walked down the hallway toward my office. When we entered my office he noticed two pieces of artwork hanging on my wall that my daughter drew for me which has the word MOM written on them. He said, “M-O-M…Mom! Hey that’s my mom’s name! She really has two names but we all just call her mom.” I giggled on the inside.
